The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle! Empty The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle!

How many cats were there? Who really knew the answer to that question? Even the lady with a gigantic smile on her face had little to no clue about the total number. So, it wouldn’t be wrong to assume that this “Mr. Snugglewuffles” wasn’t the only cat missing. Regardless, they were only expected to find this one cat.

Kioshi, wearing his standard genin attire, stood in front of the notice board with the mission scroll in his hand. He read it a couple of times. It was sort of frustrating but for genin like him, this was what missions were. It all started somewhere and this time it started from a cat search.

He wasn’t aware who else was taking this mission with him. But he had heard that someone would be joining him too.

”The more the merrier I suppose”

He thought to himself as he rang the doorbell of the house. The address was written in the mission scroll.

”Well hello there young man!”, she was loud.

Kioshi nodded and then showed her the mission scroll. No words were spoken. But the lady wasn’t affected by this response. She was pretty happy and jolly to notice. Which was pretty weird for Kioshi. Her cat was missing, ignorant much?

”Yes! My dear Mr. Snugglewuffle shuffle duffle is missing! And you must find that naughty boy!”

She redundantly repeated the same thing written in the mission scroll. Only, the mission scroll had the name “Mr. Snugglewuffle”. Kioshi made a mental note of the revised name. And for a moment, he thought to himself:

”Maybe the name scared off the cat. I mean, who names their cat Mr. Snugglewuffle shuffle duffle?! Seriously?”

Nevertheless, that was his target and he had to get it. The problem though was that there was an apparently uncountable number of cats in the house. There was one sitting atop her head, one moving about her legs, one hanging around an expensive looking decoration piece, one sleeping on the sofa, the other sleeping on the cat sleeping on the sofa, and the list just went on and on.

So Kioshi walked inside, hoping for a miracle and expecting the other shinobi to join him soon. Would Kioshi be able to survive the swarm of cats before the other shinobi arrived?

Or would this be the end of Kioshi?

Makoto was dressed in casual clothing, this mission was a mission indeed but not a mission worth him getting dressed up over. He would look at the mission scroll sent straight to him from the Kage’s office. The mission was titled “Mr. Snugglewuffle”, Makoto would read it over and over again as he made his way to the location of the mission. ‘What kind of name is that?’ Makoto would think to himself as he began to light a cigarette, a really nasty habit that began to pick up within the recent couple of months. But the saying goes ‘When boredom strikes, Makoto lights.’. Makoto would chuckle as he made his way to the center of the village being halfway there.

This was the first time Makoto had done a mission with another person , usually he was solo dolo and managed to be very successful with it putting up more than 15 D rank missions and a couple C rank. But Makoto figured this would be good for him to meet somebody new as get to know the village other than the Hyuga compound.

Makoto would make his way through the door of the house as he flicked out his cigarette taking one last puff. The door was already peered open as he saw a kid who seemed much younger than him standing in a room full of cats. Makoto would look around lost about the amount of cats around the room as he would speak up. “The name is Makoto, Makoto Hyuga.”

”Kioshi”, replied the boy with a cat on his head.

How did the cat get there? When did that even happen? And why was it already comfortably sleeping? Even the greatest detectives may not find the answer to these questions. Kioshi didn’t even notice it happen. The cat was sneaky, shinobi-like sneaky.

He wasn’t one for words, so Kioshi turned around and began looking around. But then he turned back. He noticed something, forgot, but then remembered, and he looked back at the fellow shinobi who had just appeared on the scene. Makoto was a hyuga.

Those white pupils were characteristic of the noble clan. They were great at detection and vision based sensing. Finding a cat? With a hyuga, that was probably overkill. Wasn’t it? Kioshi didn’t know how the doujutsu worked but he assumed that it would come in handy. So, with his hopes high up, he decided to do the unthinkable: speak!

”You can find it easily, right? So let’s be done with this”

He suggested. As if the hyuga would be withholding his skills. Little did Kioshi knew that hyuga eyes were great at detecting chakra. But since he had no idea how this specific chakra pattern looked like, how could he actually search for it? It’s like asking someone to find something they’ve never seen before. Kioshi was lost on this fact. He assumed that he had found the key to this problem.

The happy cat owner would watch the two with great attention. She was interested and expected that the cat would now magically appear out of nowhere since she had not one but two shinobi on the case. As if adding a shinobi ever solved a problem. Impatiently, Kioshi would wait for the hyuga in the room to solve this situation so that he could collect the reward and go home.

That’s what it was all about right? Do missions, collect rewards, and gain something in the process? Well, whatever he was about to get from this, he wanted it faster. And Makoto was supposedly his ticket to get it.

Makoto would laugh at the kid as he scratched his head. This apparently was about to be another situation where he had to explain how the Byakugan worked.

“Well to be honest Kioshi, the Byakugan doesn’t work like that. I see chakra pathways systems and if needed I would be able to see body heat but seeing that these are all cats this may be a bit different. I barely know what this cat would look like.” Makoto would say as he held up the scroll he received. Makoto would look around the room in attempt to find the cat but apparently the cat was not going to be in this house.

Makoto would make his way out of the house expecting Kioshi to follow him, after all he was a Chuunin and sort of assumed leader of the mission. “I don’t think the cat could be far Kioshi but this is better than being in the house because I'll be able to actually use my doujutsu like you wanted.” Makoto knew that all the cat's chakra pathway system looked the same in the house because it was full of cats but if they are outside, they might have a better chance of finding the cat.

Makoto would pull out a cigarette and light it as he would activate his byakugan. He would look at Kioshi and smile, showing his temple strain due to the doujutsu as he would soon locate a cat around 2 blocks away from where they were. “Time to find a cat Kioshi!”

The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle! Empty Re: The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle!

Twas a strange revelation to Kioshi. A hyuga needed to know the exact chakra pattern to find something or someone? Well, now he knew and he would make a mental note of that to make sure he didn’t make the same assumption ever again.

Nonetheless, he was still stuck in this situation and Makoto, was apparently, taking the lead. So Kisohi followed him, of course with the cat on top of his head, as Makoto walked outside. It was then that Makoto turned on his byakugan and lit a smoke too. Was that some sort of ritual for the hyuga? He didn’t knew a lot of hyuga so he wasn’t really sure. But it wasn’t supposed to work like that.

In response to Makoto’s proclamation that they were going to find a cat, Kioshi would only nod. And then he would wait until Makoto would run off to look for the cat elsewhere. Now that he knew how the byakugan worked, he realized what Makoto was trying to do. Instead of looking for the cat, Makoto would rely on the assumption that the cat hadn’t gone far. And then, he would look for all the cats in close proximity and just get the one resembling the description in the scroll.

That was his deduction of course. May be Makoto had another plan in mind entirely. But Kioshi didn’t know because Makoto hadn’t explained anything to him. But that wouldn’t be the reason why Kioshi would choose to stay behind.

You see, Kioshi was the basics sort of guy. He knew that if you built your fundamental right, everything was more likely to work out. So once Makoto would leave on his search, Kioshi would walk back inside the house. And begin his search.

Yes, he intended to first look inside the house. Because as opposed to Makoto’s assumption, Kioshi thought that the cat was probably too lazy to run off anywhere.

It was clear that this lady adored her cats. So even if the cat was named so awfully, it still got the care and love of a kind pet owner. Therefore, it was unlikely that the cat would run away. The happy lady would notice that one of the shinobi had left but she wouldn’t ask questions; not from Kioshi, she had understood that he wasn’t the talkative type.

With the cat resting on his head, Kioshi would get to work. He would look behind sofas, underneath carpets, inside drawers, underneath expensive decoration pieces, and on top of ceiling fans. He found cats on all those places, just not Mr. Snugglewuffle Duffle Shuffle Muffle. Twas strange, very strange. And he had no spider senses, but something tingled inside of him. Something, that told him, that Mr. Snugglewuffle Duffle Shuffle Muffle Chuffle was some place very close by.

The only problem was that he couldn’t quite put his paw on it yet.

The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle! Empty Re: The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle!

Post by Makoto Sat Jul 20, 2019 2:33 pm

Makoto would rush around the two blocks in attempt to find the cat that he saw through his byakugan. It would take him no time to reach the cat as he noticed within the very few seconds that this wasn’t even the cat he was supposedly supposed to be searching for. Makoto would continue to look around the village searching for little animals that he would soon find out, weren’t cats in the least bit.

After a while Makoto would grab some water from a nearby store. As he pondered with his thoughts about the new kid, Kioshi.. That was his name. The kid was a little small and didn’t seem to talk much, but maybe he was one of those nuts you just had to crack open. Makoto would drink the rest of his water and decide to make that his new friend, maybe try to teach him a thing or two due to being a higher rank or the kid might actually be able to teach him something. Makoto would chuckle to himself as he made his way to the house to let the kid know he didn’t have success finding the cat, as this would result in a failed mission.

It didn’t take time to Makoto to reach the house as he would take a glance at the house before he walked into the house. There it was, the cat they had been searching for, on the roof. Makoto would chuckle as he had done many times before as he would quickly make his way up the roof to get the cat then proceed to bring it to Kioshi.

“It seems like the cat perferred the roof.” Makoto would say with a chuckle. As he proceeded to make his way out the door. “Nice to meet you Kioshi, it would be an honor to do a mission with you again. Maybe we can look for something a little harder.” With that Makoto would walk out the door and close it behind him, vanishing into the wind.

The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle! Empty Re: The Search for Mr. Snugglewuffle Shuffle Duffle!

Post by Kioshi Sun Jul 21, 2019 1:40 am

While Makoto searched the streets, Kioshi searched every nook and cranny of the house. This cat was super good at hiding. It was as if, this was a ninja cat or something. Even two shinobi were having a hard time finding it.

By the time Makoto would make his way towards the house, Kioshi would be done with his search. He too had turned up with nothing. And while he still had a cat resting on top of his head, he hadn’t found the cat he was looking for. Seriously, when did that cat pop up on his head anyways? And why was it so comfortable? People’s head aren’t places to sleep cat!

Kioshi would walk out and be greeted by Makoto and now the cat. Apparently, it had been on the rooftop this entire time.

How did it get there? Why did it go there? Those questions would probably remain one of life’s great mysteries.

One could say, that the cat may have ended up on top of the roof as a result of a hangover. But there was no evidence to prove that. Nevertheless, they had it. And Makoto was on his way. Not before saying some nice words to Kioshi. Words that made Kioshi smile and nod.

As he saw Makoto leave, he would finally reply:

”Likewise”

This was his reply to Makoto’s desire to do more missions, and possible ones that involved finding something more dangerous. For Kioshi though, that would take some time. He was a mere genin. And he couldn’t magically jump from being a genin to jounin. It’s not like miracles like that happened. The shinobi system wasn’t so simple. There were exams and to move forward in rank, one had to do things first.

Once Makoto had disappeared from his vision, Kioshi would turn to the happy lady, now busy hugging, snuggle, and cuddling the slightly troubled cat. Even the cat meowed in a way that sounded like: ”Jeez lady, knock it off.. meow”

Kioshi would remove the cat sleeping on his head and put it on a couch. It was time for him to say his goodbyes too. This mission was done and he had to go on with life. He couldn’t stay with the lady and her cats.

Before he left though, he had one thing to say to her that he felt was important.

”You really shouldn’t name your cat Mr. Snugglewuffle Duffle Shuffle Muffle Chuffle. It can be a bit overwhelming at times”

And without waiting for a reply, he would turn and gloriously fade away into the sun set as “there goes my hero” would play in the background.

A single tear would escape the left eye of the cat lady. She couldn’t believe her ears. In shock, she would say it out loud:

”I never could've imagined that there would be a man who could guess my cat’s full name”
